Rules

I would use this video on the first day of class after going over the rules and expectations for the school year. I would also use it to stress how important it is to treat everyone with kindness and respect. It is my job as a teacher to create a safe and equitable learning environment for all of my students and showing them this video will serve as a reminder about how they are expected to behave in our classroom.

Language Arts Lesson

I would use this video for my 3rd grade language arts class before explaining the parts of a word. The video is a good introduction for a lesson on root words, prefixes and suffixes. It explains that prefixes are at the head of a word, you have a root and suffixes are at the tail end of it. This video would give me a base to explain what some common prefixes mean and how they can change the meaning of a word. Learning prefixes and suffixes is also a good way for students to build their vocabulary.

Multiplication as Repeated Addition

CIEE 213 Weblog: Multiplication as Repeated Addition: ""

I would use this video for a 3rd grade math class. I would teach them how to multiply using repeated addition and this video would help clarify the concept for them. I don’t think memorizing the multiplication table is helpful for any student unless they know how the concept works. By letting them see how it works using repeated addition they can understand it and master it before we move on to division. I like the video because it is short and to the point. I also think the students would find it interesting because it takes to you to a place named Gabon in West Africa to learn about the topic.
